Some songs survive generations because they’re timeless. Others survive because country artists simply refuse to leave them alone. Fortunately, “Silver Threads and Golden Needles” deserves both.

Award-winning singer-songwriter Lee Newton has released the official music video for her collaboration with Georgette Jones and Heidi Parton, bringing three distinctive voices together for a new take on the country classic. First recorded by rockabilly pioneer Wanda Jackson in 1956, the song would go on to be recorded by an impressive list of artists, including Dolly Parton, Tammy Wynette and Loretta Lynn. In other words, Newton, Jones and Parton aren’t exactly walking into a room without some history on the walls.

The new video leans into that history with a guest list that reads a little like someone accidentally left the door unlocked at a country music reunion. Cameos include John Berry, John McEuen, The Malpass Brothers, Leon Everette, Duane Allen and William Lee Golden of The Oak Ridge Boys, Ronnie McDowell, Jimmy Fortune, Confederate Railroad, Marty Raybon, T. Graham Brown, Artimus Pyle and more.

The collaboration follows Newton’s recent acoustic album, Beautifully Undone, which revisits material from throughout her career with stripped-down arrangements placing the emphasis where country music usually works best: the song, the story and the people telling it.
