Apparently, we needed another musical genre. Fortunately, this one comes with better guitars.
UK outfit HIGH PARASITE has released “The Screams That Come,” a new standalone single through Spinefarm that continues the band’s self-described venture into “Death Pop,” a meeting point between gothic darkness, heavy music and the mildly suspicious idea of writing choruses people can actually remember.
Fronted by My Dying Bride vocalist Aaron Stainthorpe, HIGH PARASITE has some serious weight behind the new track. “The Screams That Come” was produced by Paradise Lost guitarist Gregor Mackintosh and mixed by Lawrence Mackrory, whose credits include Meshuggah and Katatonia. That’s a collection of names suggesting nobody accidentally wandered into the wrong studio.
The single arrives as HIGH PARASITE continues a busy stretch that has included touring with Cradle of Filth and Paradise Lost and appearances at Bloodstock, Brutal Assault and other European metal festivals. The band is also set for London’s Metalfest alongside doom legends Candlemass, with a Halloween headline show in Halifax scheduled for October 31.
And because releasing something called “The Screams That Come” wasn’t quite enough good news for people who prefer their music somewhere between catchy and deeply unsettling, HIGH PARASITE has completed work on its second studio album, currently expected in early 2027.
Maybe “Death Pop” has legs after all.
