It took more than 40 years, but “Everybody’s Gonna Die” has finally made the album. Better late than never seems slightly inappropriate given the title, but here we are.
CRO-MAGS has released “Everybody’s Gonna Die (2026),” a newly recorded version of the 1985 demo-era favorite that didn’t make the final cut of the band’s landmark 1986 debut, The Age of Quarrel. The track appears on the upcoming The Age of Quarrel: 40 Years of Quarrel, arriving November 13 through BLKIIBLK.
Written by founding bassist Harley Flanagan in 1985, “Everybody’s Gonna Die” remained a favorite from the band’s early demos despite being left off the original album. Four decades later, it’s getting considerably more than a bonus-track footnote.
The anniversary project revisits The Age of Quarrel with Flanagan joined by original album guitarist Doug Holland and former CRO-MAGS and Suicidal Tendencies guitarist Rocky George, along with Meg Mills, Zach Blair, Arthur Rizk and current members Dominic Dibenedetto and Dave Sharpe. Greyson Nekrutman handles drums throughout, while Rizk produced and mixed the record.
Interestingly, the project wasn’t originally conceived as the standard anniversary exercise. While working on the Wired for Chaos documentary, several CRO-MAGS songs needed to be re-recorded because the original recordings couldn’t be licensed. That eventually led Flanagan to revisit the entire album.
The new recordings also address some unfinished business surrounding the original release. According to the band, the musicians who performed on The Age of Quarrel never received payment or an accounting of the album’s sales. With the new project, the songwriters are set to receive royalties through ASCAP and BMI, while remaining proceeds will go to charity.
Forty years after helping define the collision between New York hardcore and metal, CRO-MAGS isn’t simply polishing an old record and putting another anniversary sticker on the cover. They’re revisiting the songs, settling some old business and finally finding room for the one about how everybody dies.
Apparently even hardcore has paperwork to finish.
