Swedish rockers SPIDERS have released “Crystal Eyes,” the title track from their upcoming album, and once again Scandinavia appears determined to remind the rest of us that loud guitars are doing just fine.
Crystal Eyes arrives September 25 via Sound Pollution, following last year’s Sharp Objects. Recorded at Svenska Grammofonstudion in Gothenburg with producers Kalle Gustafsson Jerneholm and György Barocsai, the new album continues the band’s collision of hard rock, garage, punk and new wave without spending much time worrying about which shelf the record store should put it on.
The title track puts vocalist Ann-Sofie Hoyles out front, backed by John Hoyles and Rickard Hellgren on guitars, Alex Mayr on bass and Oskar Brindmark on drums. An accompanying video, created with production company Smack, extends the visual style surrounding the new record.
Formed in Gothenburg in 2012, SPIDERS have spent more than a decade building their reputation through records including Flash Point, Shake Electric and Killer Machine, along with plenty of time on the road. More recently, the band toured with The Hellacopters and released a split single with them honoring the late David Johansen, followed by a Spanish run with The Soundtrack of Our Lives.
The press materials describe Crystal Eyes as high-voltage rock filled with energy and attitude. That’s a lot of electricity to promise before anyone has received the utility bill, but “Crystal Eyes” offers listeners their latest chance to decide for themselves.
Crystal Eyes arrives September 25.
