Tropidelic has spent more than a decade building a reputation for high-energy live shows.

Apparently, somebody finally decided they needed more lights.

Following the release of First Light, the Cleveland-based band’s most successful album to date, Tropidelic is heading out on the First Light Tour with its largest live production yet, bringing a dedicated lighting designer, custom light wall and a full light ring surrounding the band.

For the first time, Tropidelic will travel with a complete visual and audio production built specifically around the music and visual identity of First Light. The goal is to take a show already known for turning crowded rooms into celebrations and make the new material feel even bigger once it hits the stage.

Subtle, in other words, isn’t really the assignment.

Released in June, First Light has become the most-streamed album in Tropidelic’s catalog, marking another step forward for a band that has spent years building its audience the old-fashioned way: getting in the van and playing for people.

Musically, Tropidelic has never been particularly concerned with staying inside one genre long enough to make filing the record collection easy. Reggae, rock, hip-hop, funk and punk all find their way into the band’s sound, with the live show serving as the place where those influences tend to collide.

The First Light Tour now gives the band an opportunity to pair that energy with a production designed specifically for this chapter.

It also eventually brings Tropidelic back where the story started.

The band will return home to Cleveland for a November 21 show at The Agora, giving its hometown audience a chance to experience the expanded production and close out the tour with the band.

There’s something fitting about First Light becoming Tropidelic’s biggest album just as the band invests in its biggest live production.

New songs. Bigger show. More lights.

And after more than a decade of touring, Tropidelic apparently still hasn’t figured out how to turn the energy down.

Probably for the best.
