Country music has never been particularly shy about celebrating people who get up before sunrise, work with their hands and come home wearing evidence of the day. Makenzie Phipps is adding another song to that tradition with her new single, “Blue Collared Man.”

Premiered by Country Evolution, the new track finds Phipps leaning into the sound of 2000s country while paying tribute to the men and women whose jobs keep families, businesses and communities moving. For Phipps, however, the inspiration isn’t something dreamed up in a Nashville writing room. It’s waiting for her at home.

Phipps says the song reflects her own day-to-day life with a hardworking blue-collar partner, turning early alarms, packed lunches, long weeks and farmer’s tans into the details that give the song its personality. She also describes the track as different from her previous releases and closer to the era of country music she personally loves.

“Blue Collared Man” follows a busy stretch for the Virginia singer-songwriter, who has continued releasing new music while maintaining an active touring schedule. Phipps was also a contestant on Season 28 of The Voice as a member of Team Snoop Dogg.

Apparently, country music has discovered there are still plenty of songs hiding between a 3 a.m. alarm clock and a hard hat. Somebody just has to be awake early enough to write them.

“Blue Collared Man” is available now.
