After a year and a half spent fighting cancer, Dallas Wayne is trading treatment rooms for listening rooms.
The singer-songwriter and longtime SiriusXM personality is returning to live performances this fall following treatment for multiple myeloma. Wayne says he is now in remission and will play a series of intimate shows across Missouri, North Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia, including a stop at Nashville’s legendary Bluebird Cafe.
For Wayne, the smaller rooms aren’t simply a convenient way to ease back onto the road. They’re where he prefers to work.
“Listening rooms are my favorite places to play because they foster an intimate, one-to-one connection with the audience,” Wayne said, comparing that relationship to the one he’s developed with listeners through SiriusXM’s Willie’s Roadhouse and Outlaw Country.
It’s a relationship Wayne has had plenty of time to build. His career stretches back roughly 50 years and includes 13 solo albums, extensive touring throughout North America and Europe, and work with projects including Heybale and The TwangBangers. His most recent album, Coldwater, Tennessee, was produced by Buddy Cannon and includes collaborations with Robbie Fulks, Cannon and Country Music Hall of Famer Bill Anderson.
Away from the stage, Wayne remains a familiar voice to traditional-country listeners through his regular SiriusXM programs. He was inducted into the Texas Country Music Hall of Fame in 2015 and received the Living Legend award with his 2026 induction into the North America Country Music Assoc. International Hall of Fame.
There are plenty of reasons musicians say they’re happy to be back on the road. After what Dallas Wayne has been through, this one carries considerably more weight.
And for a man who has spent much of his life playing country music and talking about it on the radio, getting back into a room full of people listening to songs sounds like a pretty good definition of getting back to normal.
