Kelly Lang is seeing green, and for once, that’s apparently a good thing.
The acclaimed singer-songwriter, producer and author has brought her latest album, Jealous Green Eyes, to vinyl, with the project now available on traditional black wax as well as a limited-edition “Kelly Green” pressing. Because if you’re going to call an album Jealous Green Eyes, putting it on ordinary black vinyl and calling it a day feels like a missed opportunity.
The 11-track collection draws from songs Lang has written throughout her career, moving through love, heartbreak, healing and second chances without forgetting that country music is allowed to have a sense of humor. Among the album’s highlights are “I Reach for Red,” “This Too Shall Pass” and the tongue-in-cheek “HollyWould.” There’s also “Never Met a Man I Didn’t Love,” Lang’s answer to T.G. Sheppard’s “I Loved ‘Em Every One” proof that after all these years, country music can still carry on a conversation.
For Lang, the vinyl release is more than a colorful collectible. It’s a return to the ritual of putting on a record, hearing the occasional pop and crackle, and actually listening to an album from beginning to end. Remember that?
