Theory of a Deadman Turns Up the Heat with “Winnebago (Lay Low)” Nashville Hot Chicken Mix

Theory of a Deadman has released a Nashville Hot Chicken Mix of “Winnebago (Lay Low),” proving that apparently even rock songs can come with a spice level.

The new version arrives through ONErpm, accompanied by a lyric video, and revisits a track from the band’s recently released EP, Part 1: Funeral Songs.

As for the unusual name, frontman Tyler Connolly offers a surprisingly straightforward explanation.

“We recorded this song in Nashville, and I remember walking past these chicken places with line-ups out the door, and I’m thinking there must be something to it,” Connolly explained.

Naturally, the next logical step was to name a mix after fried chicken.

Because that’s how the music business works now.

The release comes as Theory of a Deadman prepares to return to Canada for The Northern Chaos Tour, a headline run featuring special guests Mammoth.

The tour begins March 5, 2027, at The Light House Arts Centre in Halifax and continues across Canada before wrapping up March 31 at Vancouver’s Queen Elizabeth Theatre.

For Connolly, the upcoming shows represent a welcome return to the band’s home country.

“Ohhhhh Canada, we’re coming home!!” he said. “So pumped to come back and do an electric tour; it’s been way too long.”

The Canadian rockers have built their career around a combination of hard rock, melodic hooks and a willingness to find humor in subjects that don’t always lend themselves to it.

And while Part 1: Funeral Songs suggests a considerably darker direction, the Nashville Hot Chicken Mix demonstrates that the band hasn’t completely abandoned its sense of fun.

The new version also gives “Winnebago (Lay Low)” another opportunity to reach listeners ahead of the Canadian tour.

Whether the mix actually contains more musical heat than the original is something listeners can decide for themselves.

But one thing is certain.

Theory of a Deadman went to Nashville, recorded a song, discovered hot chicken and somehow turned the entire experience into another release.

Some bands find inspiration in heartbreak, personal struggles or the human condition.

Others apparently just need a good lunch.

“Winnebago (Lay Low)” Nashville Hot Chicken Mix and the EP Part 1: Funeral Songs are available now through ONErpm.
